Moon rise and set times
Find Moon rise and set events during the selected UTC day at the entered location. Some locations and dates have no event within that day.
Your inputs
Start with the example values, then replace them with your own. For tables, keep the vertical bar separators and use a dot for decimals.
This simplified educational calculation has stated assumptions. Do not use it for navigation, engineering safety or other safety-critical decisions.

How it works
Search for an apparent upper-limb crossing of the standard horizon in the 24 hours starting at UTC midnight. Results are UTC and can fall on a different local calendar date. A missing event is reported as unavailable, not midnight. Terrain and nonstandard weather are excluded.
Worked example
These sample results use the original example inputs in the form. They do not change when you edit your inputs; your own result appears in the workspace.
| Event | UTC instant |
|---|---|
| Moonrise | 2026-10-08T01:33:23.699Z |
| Moonset | 2026-10-08T14:22:51.780Z |
Read the result carefully
Results depend on the values and assumptions shown above. Change one input at a time to see its effect. A blank or unavailable result means the data does not support a calculation; it is not zero.
