Planet altitude and azimuth
Locate the Sun, Moon and planets relative to your local horizon at a chosen UTC instant. The coordinates describe the sky, not astrological influence.
Your inputs
Start with the example values, then replace them with your own. For tables, keep the vertical bar separators and use a dot for decimals.
Never look at the Sun through a telescope or binoculars without correctly fitted specialist solar equipment. These calculations do not establish safe equipment use.
Tool inputs are processed in your browser and are not submitted by this tool. Existing site analytics and advertising services have their own privacy terms.

How it works
Calculate topocentric equatorial coordinates of date and transform them to horizon altitude and azimuth with standard atmospheric refraction. Buildings, terrain, cloud, light pollution and unusual refraction are not included. Never observe the Sun without specialist protection.
Worked example
These sample results use the original example inputs in the form. They do not change when you edit your inputs; your own result appears in the workspace.
| Celestial body | Altitude | Azimuth |
|---|---|---|
| Sun | 34.5812 | 219.9125 |
| Moon | 25.3769 | 249.2432 |
| Mercury | 31.1346 | 190.5249 |
| Venus | 26.5647 | 193.691 |
Read the result carefully
Results depend on the values and assumptions shown above. Change one input at a time to see its effect. A blank or unavailable result means the data does not support a calculation; it is not zero.
