US federal and state tax-band scenario
Separate federal and state ordinary-income tax layers using brackets you supply for the chosen filing status and year. Example brackets are hypothetical, not an official tax table.
Your inputs
Start with the example values, then replace them with your own. For tables, keep the vertical bar separators and use a dot for decimals.
Illustrative inputs are not certified current rates or an entitlement decision. Confirm the country, year, eligibility and contract. This limited model is not a tax return, payroll service or financial/legal advice. Do not act on it without verifying the applicable rules.
Tool inputs are processed in your browser and are not submitted by this tool. Existing site analytics and advertising services have their own privacy terms.

How it works
Subtract the separately entered deductions, apply each marginal band only to its income slice, then subtract federal nonrefundable credits down to zero. This model omits capital gains, AMT, phase-outs, local taxes and state interactions; use the detailed slices to check a limited ordinary-income scenario.
Worked example
These sample results use the original example inputs in the form. They do not change when you edit your inputs; your own result appears in the workspace.
- Federal scenario tax: 11500
- State scenario tax: 14500
- Combined scenario tax: 26000
| Federal upper band | Rate % | Taxable slice | Tax |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20000 | 10 | 20000 | 2000 |
| 60000 | 20 | 40000 | 8000 |
| 1000000000 | 30 | 5000 | 1500 |
Read the result carefully
Results depend on the values and assumptions shown above. Change one input at a time to see its effect. A blank or unavailable result means the data does not support a calculation; it is not zero.
